Ponderosa Pants Inspo
The Ponderosa Pants sewing pattern was inspired by the feeling of freedom, by a desire to think less about my clothing and more about the present moment. The design was born out of my daily forest walks, where I wanted to wear something I could move easily in. But what I really wanted was to put on one pair of pants in the morning and wear them all day, no matter the activity.
I see clothing shifting in our world right now. I see fashion inching towards ease and unfettered self expression and away from "fitting in". I see less of a desire to "balance proportions" and "minimize problem areas". I see humans embracing color, texture, and shape in a way that feels aligned for their soul. And I notice this change in myself too.
As I age, my spirit and my fleshy body want to feel less restricted, less pressured to appear differently than I do, and more comfort and ease. Designing these pants was a little exercise in granting myself permission to relax. I hope you'll feel that way too.
Ponderosa's elasticated back waistband allows for maximum movement. The deep front pleats offer plenty of room for the hips. The side snap closure makes these pants so easy to take on and off (which has become an unexpectedly highly valued feature). All of those details paired with a natural, flowy fabric make this design so simple and easy to wear. The Ponderosa Pants have replaced jeans in my wardrobe.
I've put together a Pinterest board of inspiration images for this pattern. I like when pattern designers share these, because it gives me a peak into their artist mind. It shows me what their imagination dreamed up before the pattern came to fruition. There's something so beautiful in knowing what the intention was behind the shape.
